Thursday 5 January

Happy New Year everyone. I hope you have enjoyed the break as much as I have. The initial withdrawal symptoms faded as fast as the extra kilos went on despite the rowing. I’m now keen to get the second boat finished by the end of January and its not far off.

St John out rowing yesterday.
Rowing is now done from the Denmark Riverside Club on Wednesdays and Sundays.

Peter K was in the shed today with me and did a great job fitting and shaping the footrest for the stroke position in the boat. There was a lot of head scratching and replacement supports had to be made but he got to an initial glue up by the end of the day.

I cleaned up the inside of the boat ready for its primer coat of paint which will have to be painted on a cooler day. It was very warm in the shed today. Then I went on to completing the cox’s seat extension and painting the second coat of the blue stripe around the rudder.

Harry and Kay joined us for morning tea bringing homemade Rocky Road to add to the sugar intake. JB had made a beautifully moist lemon drizzle cake that we also couldn’t resist.

Rocky Road and cake, not to be missed.

We had a couple of visitors, Cyril and Hank, sent along by Geoff B to get a look at the skiff. They were suitably impressed and curious as to the construction method.

We finished up in time for the committee meeting at 1pm where the main topics revolved around our amalgamation into the Riverside Club which will be completed this month, and the upcoming regatta in Augusta on the 28th January.

It looks like Saturday will be cool enough to paint the primer and still enough. All sorts of dust was blowing around in the shed today.

Love to see a few more of you on Monday.

Cheers Dave
