In celebration of the beautiful environment that is the Kwoorabup (Noongar) River, Denmark Rowers is planning a day of water craft activities and a non-competitive swimming event combined with environmental and cultural activities for all the family.
Events
Opening ceremony in Berridge Park at 10am. Menang Elder, Aunty Vernice Gillies, accompanied by local Menang man Ryan Guilfoyle will welcome us to country followed by Wren Bethen and Ash Schipp leading us in singing to the river.
Guided Cultural Heritage and Environment Walks along the banks of the Kwoorabup River. Menang Elder Aunty Vernice Gillies and Menang men, Larry Blight and Ryan Guilfoyle will teach us about the cultural history of the area and the flora and fauna. They will share traditional stories and help us see the land and the river through the traditional owners’ eyes. The Denmark Bird Group will also share their knowledge of the river’s bird life.
Dragon Boat races, along the beautiful Kwoorabup River
A 5km Kayak race out into the Wilson Inlet and back to Berridge Park. For safety reasons this is restricted to over 16s only and PFDs (lifejackets) are compulsory
A 1.2km swim down river from Berridge Park to the Rail Trail Bridge. First wave is competitive (wetsuits OK) and the second wave is non-competitive (wetsuits, costumes, snorkels and fins allowed)
Environmental and cultural activities with information on the Kwoorabup River and its surrounds
Short course paddle races over 300m in front of Berridge Park on Kayaks, Stand Up Paddle Boards and Surfboards (Longboards, Surf Skis etc)
St Ayles Skiff rowing pursuit races for teams of four rowers and an experienced cox. Get your team together and get in touch with Denmark Rowers for a few practice runs.
Kwoorabup Cordless Drill Challenge. Get started now in designing and building your version of an EB (Electric Boat) using a cordless drill to power it in an environmentally friendly manner.
Food and coffee by Gin Lao and Ben’s Place plus a raffle to be drawn at the end of the day.

Schedule of Events
The entry fee has been set at a nominal $10 (plus $1.39 if paid on Humanitix which goes to a great cause) for the event that you would most like to take part in. Numbers are limited for safety reasons so book early. If you would like to take part in more than one event you are most welcome to purchase another event ticket or turn up on the day and see if there are available tickets at no extra cost.
All entries will be at their own risk but safety is our priority and the Denmark Surf Life Saving Club has generously agreed to provide support boats and crew, first aid stations and first aiders for your safe keeping. Water activities are never without risk, so please be mindful of your own capabilities and health and respect your fellow participants and the safety volunteers. If you are paddling or rowing PDFs (lifejackets) will be mandatory.
