Denmark Rowers Shed

Denmark Rowers Fundraising Campaign

Denmark Rowers are raising money to build a much needed storage shed for their 2 St Ayles Skiffs and and other equipment at the Denmark Riverside Club.

The goal is to raise $30,000 in direct donations. The total cost of the shed is estimated to be between $60,000 and $70,000. Previous Denmark Rowers fund raising activities have already raised around $12,500 and we are applying for grants for the remainder.

Can you help us?

Option 1: Bank Transfer (EFT) to Denmark Riverside Club Inc. Please reference “Rowers Shed” and your name.  This is our preferred option as all of your donation goes towards the shed.

Option 2: Australian Sports Foundation click on this link for a tax deductible donation https://asf.org.au/campaigns/denmark-riverside-club/denmark-rowers-shed-fund

Why do we need a Rowers Shed?

Demand for rowing over three years since the skiffs were launched has increased by 33% to 178 sessions and 895 crew rows in 2025. We are now constrained by the storage and accessibility to our second skiff. The Rower’s Shed will address this problem and free up storage in the club for other club sections.

Other Advantages

Ease of access for environmentally sustainable use of the skiffs is important to Denmark Rowers. The new shed will be closer to the launch ramp and half the vertical height above the water. We launch our boats by hand on a trolley and so older and younger crews will benefit from the reduced slope. We also will not have to risk crossing Morgan Road.

Increased availability of both skiffs means that we can offer school groups and other community youth groups rowing sessions.

The Riverside Club is also committed to making its facilities and activities available to people with disabilities. All our sports support mental and physical ability development and promote tolerance and social cohesion.

Desired Outcomes

This infrastructure will make a long term contribution to maintaining the Denmark Riverside Club as a viable concern. This will allow it to continue to provide a valuable form of healthy social activities for the Denmark Community.

Increase community participation in the recreational activity of rowing St Ayles Skiffs by having both our boats in a shed close enough to the water to be manually launched and retrieved.

Increase physical and mental health outcomes for participants. Community rowing is a low impact exercise that is undertaken by people of all ages and abilities. It is also a social activity which provides an enjoyable and healthy form of exercise to keep members fit and mentally active and in touch with the natural environment.

Building a sense of belonging within the community. Denmark Rowers built the St Ayles Skiffs that they row. That activity bound us together. Our pride in the boats and the connections that continue to be made in rowing them, enhances our sense of belonging.

Increase our community ties with local Traditional Custodians of the land. Denmark Rowers already have good relationships with local First Nations groups, with participation in the Kwoorabup River Festival. As part of the shed project it has always been our ambition to include signage about the Kwoorabup River (Denmark River) and the Mokare Trail which pass only a few meters from the proposed shed.

Connect and build inclusion with people with disabilities. Denmark Riverside Club is committed to making its facilities and activities available to people with disabilities. Along with Sport4All we run an open day for people with disabilities.  Denmark Rowers will be in a better position to take people with disabilities out rowing with two boats on the club premises.

Kwoorabup River

Build on community awareness of the precious environment of the Denmark River and the Wilson Inlet and the ocean beyond. We already have a keen sense of the environment in which we row and take care of it by removing rubbish from the water and reporting pollution and hazards. Increasing the rowing sessions due to ease of access will increase our vigilance and inform our community of our precious environment.

Enhance our support of vulnerable and isolated people in our community. Denmark Rowers is a very inclusive and social group that attracts recent retirees to Denmark and other isolated people. Increasing participation in rowing sessions will expand this outreach into the community.

Education in aspects of seamanship and safety afloat are skills that Denmark Rowers pass on to the participants. Our growing community of rowers have an awareness of weather conditions and navigational rules to keep the crews safe.
