Monday 5 Dec

I had a quiet time in the shed this morning which is what I needed to figure out how I was going to support an extended cox’s seat in boat 2. This modification seems necessary after sitting on the coxes seat for a couple of hours getting a sore back in St John. I wanted to use the seat we had already built but rest it on a sturdy crossbeam further forward. The usual difficulty working out the angles to cut the end of a 30x30mm length of hoop pine were overcome with a bit of trial and error and a sanding machine. The next problem was to work out how to clamp it in place. I had to use 2 1.5m lengths of wood clamped to the strokes seat beam and pushing back the new cross beam into its position. An extra lead weight stopped it from popping up. Fingers crossed it will still be there in the morning.

Harry joined me for tea and cake and then I painted the blue band on the rudder. Peter K and JP then made an appearance and they changed out the wire winch rope for dyneema rope very kindly supplied and spliced by JP. Geoff called in for a chat about the move to the Riverside Club which is imminent as the launching trolley should be ready today. It will require a working bee at the new shed very soon.

I failed to take any photos today but I did receive a few good ones of the launch day from Pat Gill at the Denmark Bulletin. Thanks Pat.
