I came in early and picked up a full set of components for one rowlock pin and took it with a couple of wrenches over to the Riverside Club to compare the set up we have in the first boat. We needed a bit more clearance between the base of the rowlock gate and the rowlock block, I estimated 3cm. I also needed an idea of how much longer the new metal pins are as I expect we shall have to shorten them. While there I also sorted out some of the problems we were having with loose rowlocks.

Back in the shed people started gathering to lift the boat onto the trailer. Libby had brought some anzacs for morning tea and I had brought a few pieces of rhubarb and ginger cake. JP took the pictures and Joy gave directions as we carried boat 2 out onto the trailer.

Discussing modifications to the tie down strap.

A few of us had a cup of tea and cake. Clem had taken the pins home for a final clean up of the threads we will use. I took the boat around to Denmark Signwriters to get the decals put on. Disappointingly they hadn’t received the gold material for the Nullaki name from the eastern states, I took the boat back to the shed and adjusted the support benches.

JD took the bent pin home and straightened it. I rounded the base of each wooden pin on the spindle sander and when I had all the pins back I glued the metal pins into the wooden pins after Nick had earlier filed the holes in the wooden pins slightly wider to let the metal pins go in all the way in.

Metal pins glued into wooden pins.

I had another cup of tea and sat and admired our beautiful boat and thought of all the people who had had a hand in creating it and St John.

A lot to admire.
All done.

I packed up a few of my tools and took them home.

We are planning to launch Nullaki on Thursday.

Cheers Dave
