Wednesday 28th September

It felt like summer and Adrian reported the temperature gauge at the High School was already showing 24 deg C when he came in. In the shed it got positively hot under the Alsynite. Four of us were in the shed today, which really made a difference. Veronica did the last coat of paint on the inside of Boat 1.

Just about finished inside.

Lesley and I prepped the gunwales to receive the first gunwale batten. Adrian returned to cut the scarfs and the tapers in what will be the third batten.

Adrian making beautiful scarf joints despite his injured hand.

I went off to Harry’s other shed to use his drop saw and drum sander to trim and thickness the cox and bow seats. We stopped for morning tea but were not quite ready to glue on the first batten then. Later we had a lunch break, a first for the shed, before gloving up and smearing glue down the clearly marked glue sides of the battens. Everyone helped to get them into place and clamped down. We had a VIP from St John ambulance, Marion, who joined us at lunch time.

Lunch break with Marion.

At the end of the day the first inner gunwale batten was clamped in place.
