Wednesday 21 September

JP and I had agreed to don masks and give the inside of boat 1 its first coat of paint. I arrived before JP and gave the inside a final dust. When JP arrived he insisted on going to Thorntons for measuring jugs so that we could measure out the 3 to 1 two pack primer we were told we had to use on the resin coat. We then duly measured up 600ml of paint to 200ml of hardner expecting that to be enough. We started by cutting in with the dodgy cheap brushes we had been supplied with and had plenty of problems straight away. The paint dried quickly pulling the bristles out of the brushes. You actually needed quite a thick coat to get it to flow consistently but we were always in danger of having runs.

Cutting in.
It wasn’t easy to get a good finish but it is only the undercoat.

We then switched to roller mode, JP, with me tipping off. You had to be quick to follow up the roller because the paint was going off in a couple of minutes in the warm shed. We swapped jobs halfway through and then the 800 ml of paint we had mixed ran out. JP mixed up another 250ml batch and we had our lunch while the obligatory 10 minutes of letting it sit before using it ticked by. Then it was back into it for the last 4 panels in the boat.

My back is killing me at this stage.
All done and the skiff is transformed again.
An interesting shape for a bath?
Boat 2 ready for more work tomorrow.

Cheers Dave
