Monday 11 July
I was in early and sanding away at the gunwales of boat 1 to warm up. JP and I had been in for another covert operation on Saturday fitting and glueing jarrah blocks into those missed rowlock sections where Dr John had been working with Meranti. It had gone well and it was easy to now get them cleaned up ready for the innermost laminates to be glued into place. JP arrived and we went to work fitting the bow ends into the stem.
Dr John came in with a bag of limes to divvy up amongst us but as JP and I were both going away and Kay only wanted a few they have been left to tempt whoever comes into the shed tomorrow.
Dr John also brought with him his and Erica’s membership renewal forms and must have been the first to renew their memberships for this financial year. He then got on with planing the plank lands for the final plank on boat 2 while Archie went crazy about some animal he could smell in the shed wall.
After morning tea JP wetted up the glueing surfaces on the gunwale blocks I had to duck out to see a physio. When I got back we set about spreading glue and then clamping the laminate into place which wasn’t easy. It was under pressure and wanted to escape from the clamps aided by slippery glue in all directions. Finally we were happy after using all the serviceable clamps in the house.
Well I’m away now for 5 working days on the boats so its the communities chance to make decisions and put their stamp on the boats. I’ll be available on Dave’s helpline, the number is on the job list in the shed. Dr John has a fair idea of the things that are possible while I’m away. Give it a go.
Cheers Dave
