Monday 4th July
Very cold and crisp this morning but sunny. Peter K and I found JP already in the shed ready to go. We decided that even though it was cold we had to do some glueing today. JP found a piece of black plastic to put over the epoxy resin container so that it would warm up and flow better into the pump. We placed it in the sunshine beaming through the Alsynite panels in the roof. We then set about warming ourselves up with a) a cup of tea and b) some vigorous planing of the last scarf by JP and sanding the gunwale blocks by Peter. I started the process of shaping the inner gunwale laminate that will cover the blocks making an adjustment to the only frame that we have completed to allow in this laminate.
It was easy to cut down with the pull saw but how were we to cut it off at the inside base? Peter devised a method with a hacksaw blade that worked a treat. Peter and I then used Harry’s thicknesser to dress the inner laminate to the required thickness.
We then had a break that turned out to be a lunch break as Peter came back from the Shell with sausage rolls and KitKats which was very welcome. The temperature in the shed was much improved and so we went ahead with the glue up process.
JP and Peter glued the scarfs of plank 5 and clamped it all up. I applied glue to the lands on the boat liberally and was joined by Peter and JP when they were finished. We then clamped on the planks and set about cleaning up. I did the dive below the boat and got incredibly dirty.
See you at the AGM this evening.
Cheers Dave
