Friday 10 June

It wasn’t warm first thing this morning but the weather forecast was for 20 degrees and so potentially a great day for glueing in Denmark, thus we decided to put in and extra day this week.

I was late getting to the shed and JP and Dr John and Harry were already there. Paul W turned up at about the same time and we again checked the planks would fit. It was decided we needed to shave a bit off the edges of the planks where they met on the centre line so that they could lie flat. Dr John mixed up a pot of resin and when we were finished we wetted out the glueing surface and JP mixed loads of glue which I applied very thickly. Three mixes of glue later we knew we would get a good squeeze out.

We located the first plank and began clamping and temporary screwing form the centre of the boat outwards towards the ends. JP and I were on the clamps and Paul W screwed the temporary screws through the planks into the keelson. Squeeze out was positively prolific ending up dripping to the floor. The planks went on surprisingly well thanks to Veronica’s precision shaping of the keelson. Getting rid of the bulge at the joints between the keelson and the stems is key to a fair plank shape attached to the building moulds. The clean up went for quite a while and quite a bit of glue went in the bin. I filleted every joint with the excess glue and was really pleased with end product.

Have a great weekend and see you on Monday.
