Tuesday 10 May

Harry was in the shed showing his mate Doug the progress on the skiff when I arrived this morning. A familiar crew of Nick (who I had passed on the bike track slogging up hill without an electric motor), JP, Adrian and John S with Archie turned up today to sand the filleted hull to near perfection. JP brought in his vacuum cleaner and new orbital sander and after we had a had a good go hand sanding the fillets with nicely rounded sanding blocks, JP cleaned up the hull in no time with 120 grit paper. The downside was we couldn’t talk to each other over the din and so tea break was cut short.

JP power sanding.
The sanding team at work.

By 12 we were happy with the result and decide to go for our first coat of resin diluted with TPDRA (8 & 4 and two capfuls of TPDRA). We broke out the rollers and Nick and Adrian set to while I followed them with a brush filling the fillets and laying off the roller marks. The results look magnificent.

Roll on epoxy resin
Laying off with a brush
Amazing finish for one coat
Gleaming!

Back on Thursday to put a second coat on. It’ll take a third before she’s ready to turnover on Tuesday probably.

Cheers Dave.
