Saturday 26 March
On the premise that we needed a finished garboard plank for Monday’s session so that we can finish the fairing of the hog and move forward with a few other jobs to go around, JP and I had a sneaky session this morning glueing the first plank scarf joints. We marked the final position of the scarf joint on the moulds and then compared it to the string position method. The forward end was spot on but the stern end was a few millimetres off the pin. We decided on a compromise position and put guide nails in the bench so that after wetting up and applying the glue the planks returned to the same position on their scarfs. In no time we were finished. Kay did wonder who was hammering nails in their shed. Harry had a chat with us as we were leaving and said he’d see us on Monday.
